THROUGH KENYA RED CROSS SOCIETY (KRCS)

Expanding HIV Prevention ,Care & Treatment Services to Reach Universal Access (80% coverage) to Reduce both Incidents and Associated Impacts

International Community of Women Living with HIV- Kenya Chapter (ICW-K) has been implementing the Global Fund (NFM Grant) through Kenya Red Cross. Since 2019, we have been able to implement this grant in Kiambu and Elgeyo-Marakwet Counties. The GF NFM 2 was implemented between July 2019-June 2021. The grant was then successfully renewed for 3 years to be implemented from 1st July 2021 to 30th July 2024.  

Global Fund (NFM3)

The Goal: Contribute to attainment of universal health coverage through comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment and care for all people in Kenya.

Duration: July 2021-June 2024

Program Objectives: 

  • Reduce new HIV infections by 75%
  • Reduce AIDs related mortality by 50%
  • Reduce HIV related stigma and discrimination to less than 25%

KEY MODULES

TREATMENT CARE & SUPPORT

  • The key focus of the TCS Module is Defaulter tracing targeting Adults living with HIV (15 and above) and Children living with HIV (under 
  • Based on the mapping data for defaulters in the county, we have profiled 6 sub counties in Kiambu County and 4 Sub Counties in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

PREVENTION OF MOTHER TO CHILD TRANSMISSION

  • PMTCT Module will focus on all pregnant and breastfeeding women, and the pregnant Adolescent Girl and Young Woman because of her added vulnerabilities.

DISCORDANT COUPLES

The program will implement Evidence Based Interventions (EBI) and couple centered HIV prevention approaches for discordant couples, including;

  • Peer-to-peer Prevention Programmes, implementation of EBAN ,
  • Development and dissemination of IEC materials specific to DIscordant Couples 
  • Establish discordant couples psychosocial support groups.

MEN IN HIGH RISK SETTINGS

  • This module will be targeted towards engagement of men in communities and male dominated sectors in the high prevalence settings such as Jua Kali, factories and Boda Boda sector.

Why is the programme targeting men ?

  • Poor health seeking behavior; poor knowledge of HIV and SRH; poor attitude to regular use of condoms; HIV related myths and misconceptions; cultural beliefs and practices.

HUMAN RIGHTS & GENDER (Cross cutting Module)

  • The human rights module is a community led aspect of awareness creation on issues relating to SGBV, stigma and discrimination and human rights. The module will target PLHIVs cross the county to sensitize on human rights as well as areas of assistance when they face human rights violations. 
  • Also the module will target community gate keepers i.e nyumba kumi leaders to create awareness on stigma and discrimination and how they can support PLHIV who face stigma from their communities.
