History

Who we are

The International Community of Women Living with HIV-Kenya chapter (ICW-Kenya) is a national network run by and for women living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya. Registered in 2012, as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kenya our main objective and focus area of the network is to champion the interests of women living with HIV in Kenya to improve on their lives and ensure they realize human rights and dignity. ICWK achieves its main goal through focused advocacy processes at national and devolved county levels and design and implement programs that directly target women living with HIV in capacity building, sensitization ad awareness creation and increasing access to basic services including health care . The network also strives to empower women living with HIV to achieve economic stability and mitigate the impact of HIV on their livelihood.

Our Strategic Plan 2022-2027

The new ICW Kenya strategic plan 2022- 2027 responds to the urgent need to ensure that women living with HIV in their diversity have access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support interventions and commodities to be able to live positively with HIV.

It is also aimed at ensuring a conducive environment for women living with HIV to be free from HIV-related stigma and discrimination, which remains a persistent barrier to the full realization of their health and socio-economic rights.

This will also contribute to the achievement of UNAIDS global targets 95-95-95 which is expected to end HIV and AIDS by 2030. The ICWK Strategic Plan is aligned with the objectives of Kenya AIDS Strategic Framework II 2019/20-2024/25, and therefore seeks to address the following gaps in the response:

  • Increase in new HIV infections
  • Slow integration of HIV into community health programmes
  • High prevalence of SGBV and limited SGBV prevention.
  • Limited translation of research evidence into policy
  • Incomplete mainstreaming of HIV programs
  • Insufficient domestic resource mobilization.

To address these gaps and in response to the changing contextual realities, ICWK will prioritize interventions that;

i) raise awareness on the rights of women living with HIV to live a life free from violence

ii) reduce stigma and discrimination

iii) end inequalities and iv) mobilize resources for the implementation of the planned activities.
